NEWS FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
SACS Board of Trustees Meeting - Summary
September 11, 2014
The first Board Meeting of the school year was held on Thursday, September 11th in the Student Life Center. Here is an update on the agenda topics:
· The school year has started off well with a theme of unity in Christ.
· Budget wise, the school finished last year strong and the financial deficit has been eliminated
· Currently, the school is in good financial standing and the Board approved a balanced budget for 2014-15.
· We have had 4 students re-enroll since school started.
· Campus security measures are continually being monitored and improved. We have an excellent new guard for the first shift.
· An initiative was undertaken to improve communications with the school family which includes the development of a new website and utilization of Facebook. The new website should be launched in the next 30 days.
· A SACS Alumni Association was started last year and is making progress to reach former students and invite them to homecoming and other events.
3. Cost Reduction - A proposal to improve lighting and reduce utility costs was presented by Walter Penny of ASG Lighting. After discussion and questions, the proposal was approved which should lower electrical bills by $60,000 annually. In addition, SACS would be eligible for CPS rebates.
4. SACS Vision – the outline for developing a long term vision for the school was presented by Bruce Johnson and Colin Blair to fulfill our mission statement to provide a Christ centered education and prepare students for works of service. The Board will be praying about this and working on a vision and implementation strategy over the coming months.
5. Debt Reduction – a plan to systematically reduce interest bearing debt over the next ten years was presented by Bruce Johnson and Kevin Caivano. While the school has a low debt to asset ratio, it is the goal of the Board to pay off the debt in ten years.
6. Handbook Policy – A policy change to the employee handbook was presented by Dr. Walters and Court Allen to allow neat trimmed facial hair for male employees. The first reading of the policy was made and a second reading and vote will occur at the October meeting.
7. Policy Committee Update – Court Allen presented an update on the Policy Committee’s work to review and revise the Constitution and Bylaws of SACS. The committee is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and principals. The committee has been meeting at 6:30 am on Wednesday since this summer and should have its recommendations in the next 30-60 days.
We encourage parents to attend the Board Meetings to stay informed about upcoming issues, ideas and changes. Any policy change or proposal will be presented at two Board meetings before being voted on to give time for open discussion and consideration. Any parent wishing to comment on an agenda item should contact Jan Taylor at 340-1864 to schedule time for comments. Please remember that SACS follows the Matthew 18 principle for addressing issues.
Philippians 2:2 “…make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”

Thanks for checking out the new SACS Blog. The Board of Trustees is comprised of parent volunteers and the Superintendent. Our Board of Trustees is responsible for setting policies, procedures, budget and the employment of school faculty and staff.
We believe that God is sovereign and the source of all
truth. He has revealed Himself to man
through the Bible, through Jesus and through His creation. Parents have the God given responsibility to
train their children in a manner that develops Godly character. San Antonio Christian Schools exists to aid
the Christian family and their church in fulfilling this responsibility by
assisting in the total education process.
We invite you to come to a Board of Trustees meeting which is held on the second Thursday of every month in the Student Life Center at 7:30 pm.
