“Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same
love, united in spirit and intent on one purpose.” Philippians 2:2
The beginning of this school year has been a resounding
acclamation of being “united in spirit and intent on one purpose!” The halls of the school are resonating with a
determination to fulfill our mission to educate for excellence and prepare our
students for works of service. As
presented, we are united with you in this mission. This school, this ministry is of no inherent
value on its own. We are simply a
reflection and representation of the collective values held by the families
united in this effort. We reflect strong
values that are grounded in the historic truths of the Christian faith. We clearly
and passionately communicate those values.
We represent a mission and cause that is beyond ourselves and speaks
directly to future generations by the transmission of our faith to our
children. We must not fail in this
effort because at some point in the future our children will stand alone,
without us at their sides, and they must be purposely prepared. At my age, all those who raised me and helped
bring me along are gone. I learned to stand
with The Lord. We all eventually come to
this point when we have outlived the loved ones who nurtured us along the way… in
very much in the same way that Elijah left Elisha. Our children will be prepared for such times and they too will be charged with
passing their faith to the next generation.
There is no greater honor in life than being able to speak
blessing into the life of another so let’s be resolute in doing so. I want to leave you with a poem my
grandmother left to me. It has inspired me
in my life to prepare the way for others who follow behind. I give you “The Bridge Builder”.
The Bridge Builder
By: Will Allen
Dromgoole
An
old man going a lone highway,
Came,
at the evening cold and gray,
To
a chasm vast and deep and wide,
Through
which was flowing a sullen tide.
The
old man crossed in the twilight dim,
The
sullen stream had no fear for him;
But
he turned when safe on the other side
And
built a bridge to span the tide.
“Old
man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,
“You
are wasting your strength with building here;
Your
journey will end with the ending day,
You
never again will pass this way;
You’ve
crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why
build this bridge at evening tide?”
The
builder lifted his old gray head;
“Good
friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
“There
followed after me to-day
A
youth whose feet must pass this way.
This
chasm that has been as naught to me
To
that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
He,
too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good
friend, I am building this bridge for him!”
